It had been some considerable time since Ruby had actually had a Sunday off. Yes, even the fashion industry worked on the weekends, in fact the word day off is rarely used. If you want to make it big in the industry then you needed to be prepared to work really really hard which Ruby has been doing pretty much since she moved to Notting hill almost 3 years ago. It meant that she has to commute to her workplace which was located near Taverstock square, it made her days very long and as a result she permanently had bags under her eyes from the lack of sleep/days off.
Sundays when Rubes was a child always consisted of a beautifully cooked meal with her family, of course her mother had never been able to cook so it was always the maids job to make the delicious food and her mum to take all the credit for it. She still had no real contact with her mum and didn’t intend to do anything about it, why should she? Life was pretty great being independent and away from her, no point in spoiling it.
Letting out a sigh, Rubes put her sunglasses over her face in a bid to hide the indiscretions from the night before; ok it had been a heavy one. Her flatmates had dragged her down to the local pub, the downside to living in Notting hill is there were pubs everywhere meaning that avoiding drinking was sometimes hard, although she only had 2 glasses of pinot grigio, that mixed with 3 months of working 7 day weeks made her look like death this morning. Well, at least the weather was good, the sun was actually shining which means it was park weather. In her book, park weather or park days meant getting the Sunday papers a cold drink and sitting outside for as long as the sun was out. It was always a rare sight in London and needed to be enjoyed whilst it was out.
The park was just across the street from where Rubes lived, meaning that she was within a stones throw from one of the most famous sets of gardens in the world. Of course it was made famous from that cheesy movie “Notting hill” where they broke into the park and frolicked. It was such a misinterpretation of what Notting Hill was really like and to be really honest, it offended her.
Stepping out of her townhouse, Rubes clutched onto her copy of this months Glamour and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge. The weather truly was glorious and it seemed like everyone was outside. Families walked with their children, people were jogging and there were the muffled sounds of dogs barking. This was a typical London summer day. The sun was beating down and Rubes was hoping to get some form of a tan, for her that usually meant going really red, peeling and then getting some really weak tan for about a week afterwards.
Heading to the famous Gates at the gardens, she took a look around, it was pretty busy but there was still some areas that were free. The great thing about days like this was that all people seemed so much friendlier and ready to be nice in comparison to winter time in London where to put it politely everyone was really rude. Grabbing a seat on the grass she popped her water and magazine down by her side. Summertime always seemed to make Ruby think of Lukas. Yes, he is a guy that Ruby has known for a long time, she missed how close they used to be. Letting out a sigh, Rubes took a sip of her water. Hopefully the sun will keep shining.

Going where the wind blows YOU ARE YOUNG, YOU ARE WILD, YOU ARE FREE- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Lukas liked to know what was going on in the world. It was, amongst other reason, why he was reading the paper. Normally he couldn't be fussed with the overbearing number of sheets and the ink that smudged so easily into your fingers that it made it a hazard to touch your face afterwards, for fear of black marks that would no less resemble something similar to war paint. But today, while the sun beat down on the fine mess of Notting Hill Park where families buzzed around him and fun was happening in every patch of grass spare, Lukas gave in to reading the paper. But, there was another reason behind his sudden intrest in world news being told from the independents point of view. Sitting to his right, in an overly pretentious white sun hat with a ribbon tied round it, was his mother. A snobbish woman of about 50, who thanks to numerous trips to the plastic surgeon now looked like something that resembled one of those troll dolls with the vibrant hair. And next to her? Her fiance, intent on making his presence known as he chomped too loudly for Lukas's liking on pistachio nuts straight from the bag. For all the money Daria Brovushkina had, she couldn't have picked a classier fiance. Rolling his eyes, Lukas felt paws touching his leg, and soon after a tennis ball was dropped at his side. Looking over his paper, Lukas smiled at the golden retriever he had bought his sister only a year ago. Gerrad was no longer a puppy, but he wasn't an adult dog either. Like Lukas, he was blissfully young. He smiled, and picked up the ball, throwing it away so the dog ran after it. His sister giggled as the dog bounded back, without the ball and with his tounge lolling out of the side of his mouth. His mother sighed and tutted in her own self proclaimed obnoxious way. Lukas stared at her blandly. "What?" His voice was flat and unamused as he directed his question at her. She shook her head slightly, pursing her lips in a way that could only mean she was trying her hardest to keep her opinions to herself. Lukas groaned a little, folding his paper and casting a droll stare at her once more, this time his tone picking up. "Mother, what? It's obvious you have something to say so, why hold back?" Her fiance continued chomping, bits of nuts falling out of his mouth as he did so, thrusting the bag at Lukas's little sister Anna to see if she wanted one. Wisely, the four year old declined with the graceful action of sticking out her tounge and shaking her head. It was only when his mother spoke that just as he was about to laugh, he sucked it back in. "It's just now he's lost his toy thing, and now we'll have to buy another one. I'm getting pretty sick and tired of having to replace them Lukas. I mean, I don't even know why you bought the confounded thing anyway. It's not trained, it malts all over the rugs and makes so much noise in the morning it wakes the whole neighbourhood up. I mean...It's not doing any good. Why don't you just get rid of it? Or keep it at your own apartment instead treating my house like a kennel?" God, she was such a spoilt child she really was. Anyone would think Lukas had bought the dog for the soul reason to annoy her. No, that wasn't the case. "Well, actually I bought the dog for Anna. So I can't keep him at mine because then that would ruin the whole point of why I bought him. Secondly, those toys, cost like three pounds a peice. It's not the worlds worth of gold mother. But you know what, if it makes you happier I'll go find the damn toy." He finished his rant, getting to his feet rather gracefully and throwing his paper down on the floor at her feet. She pursed her lips, and looking to the side of her, Lukas saw that her fiance Mark hadn't stopped eating. Lukas glared. "And Mark?" The brute looked up, pistachio clinging unslightly to his slight beard that was growing. Lukas thrust his hands in his pockets, turning as he started to walk away, not before throwing in a casual voiced remark. "You have shit on your face." With that, he started away from the group. This was why he hated family days. It wasnt that he hated being with his sister, because he didnt. That was the only reason he had learned to suffer these sort of days. Ever since he'd started living in Camden, he'd seen less and less of a sister, and now she was off school for at least a week, he was trying to spend as much time with her as possible. And on a rare sunny day like this one, it was the prime oppurtunity to do so. But with Anna came his mother, and with his mother came mark and shed loads of complaints, dramas and whines. He sighed, walking as he thought and shaking his head. She was getting worse, getting at him for every little thing, all because she felt abandoned by her son. In honesty, Lukas couldn't care less. He would relish the fact that he would have nothing to do with her ever, but because of Anna he needed to keep some peace. Thinking now as he looked around for the tennis ball, Gerrad plodding along by his side, he had to admit he had bought the dog thinking it would annoy her. But mostly the truth was he had bought it for Anna. She needed a friend, someone to be there when Lukas wasn't. He sighed lightly, thinking of how much he needed one of those himself. He did have a friend at one point, a best friend. She was someone who could make him feel so perfect and so wonderful all at the same time, that nothing seemed to touch you. She had this way, of bringing him back down to earth when he was getting a little too big for his boots. Yeah, he'd had a best friend alright. But now? Now the story was a little different. He looked down, planning on meeting eyes with the small golden dog who shoudl have been at his feet, toddling along without a care in the world. But when he looked there was an empty space. Lukas stopped, frozen in the spot and looked around. Nothing, just families around him. It wasn't until he heard a womans shriek of horror and anger that he realised where the dog was. With his snout half buried in potato salad from some poor unsuspecting womans picnic. "Shit.." Lukas ran over, reaching out for the golden dog who barked, potato round his snout and ran away, assuming that Lukas was engaging him in some sort of game. He sprinted off, stopping for a moment and sitting in a stance with his tail and bum in the air, his head down to the ground and looking intently at Lukas for his next move. Lukas straightened, apologised to the woman who looekd stricken as if she'd been attacked by a beast, and ran at the dog, aiming to catch it and completely missing. This was no way that Lukas wanted to be spending his day. Groaning he ran around various picnics and through several games of frisbee to capture the dog, and his adrenalin pumped in his body. It wasn't until the dog collided with her, that Lukas realised the true severity of the accident. The dog had gone, hurtling at full speed and landing straight on top of someone Lukas hadn't seen in a while. The old best friend in question, Ruby Carter. The dog barked, and laughing nervously Lukas approached them both, trying to straighten himself out as he did so. The last thing he wanted was to look a mess in front of her, though he was sure his hair was more windswept now than at the best of times. "Gerrad, down boy. You're going to get me into trouble I swear...It'll be the kennels for you next time!" He smiled, letting the dog know it was just a joke, and of course, Ruby too. Extending his hand to help her up from where the dog had pounced so hard on her, he smiled. A small, polite smile. "Fancy seeing you here eh..?" He laughed again a little nervously. Thanks Gerrad. Thanks a heap. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - MUSIC PLAYING: THE HUSH SOUND -- YOU ARE MY HOME STATUS OF POST: FINI NOTES: ILCOMEDINEWITHME BANNER HERE: THAT WOULD BE MOI. _______________________________________________
As far as sunny days in London go, this was one of the best in ages. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky. It reminded Rubes of when her dad used to take her to the local park, he usually had the day off on a Sunday and whilst her mum was nursing the Saturday night hangover, he would spend hours playing with her. Something as trivial as spending time outside on a hot day made so many amazing memories for her one in particular was back when they lived in Westminster, Rubes somehow persuaded her dad to stay out and push her on the swings for an amazing four hours! She was sure it was some kind of world record. It was fair to say when they both arrived home her Mum wasn’t so impressed; even back then Rubes didn’t really care. It was a person that she didn’t like to be around so any time out of the house was a bonus.
Picking up her trusted copy of Glamour magazine, Rubes flicked through the pages and let out a little sigh, although she loved having some alone time, recently it felt like all she was, was alone and it wasn’t a nice feeling, the worst part was it made her miss her dad more and there was nothing she could do to bring him back. Flicking through the contents and onto the features page, this month Glamour was doing a feature on woman forging a career in London and they had actually asked Rubes to be in it. Obviously it was a massive deal, I mean, who gets the chance to be in Glamour magazine, it made her feel like Carrie in the Sex and the city movie. The picture showed her walking along Portobello road wearing a gorgeous Navy Ralph Lauren trench and Chanel pumps, it truly was a stunning picture and the article was very well written but Rubes only wanted one person to see it and that was her Dad.
The park was starting to get even busier now, especially with families and young children, it was great to see so many people out and enjoying the weather, it was typically British the weather is fabulous today but by tomorrow we could be knee deep in snow. That was one of the bad parts of living on an island where the weather was never ever predictable. The phrase “don’t trust the weatherman” was particularly prominent in England. Rubes continued to flick through the pages, looking at the style that was in fashion, for the summer at least it was the nautical look, basically looking like you were about to run aboard a ship and start shouting orders like “man the deck”. Lots of white and blue, with chunky gold accessories. Ruby was a pretty big fan of it, but she always liked to incorporate the fashions that pass and go Into her usual eclectic style. The pages were filled with Models, some that she had worked with when she was styling, they really looked beautiful.
Shutting the magazine, Rubes popped it down by her side, replacing her hand with a bottle of water. Taking a sip, she popped it back down. The grass was pretty soft and the sun was still shining so it was the perfect time to try and get some colour on her legs. Rolling up her trousers she lay back on the grass, keeping her sunglasses on of course, god forbid if she bumped into anyone she knew. The words looking and feeling rough described how she’s feeling perfectly. Taking a deep breath in Rubes actually started to feel a little better.
Coming from across the other side of the park Rubes heard some sort of commotion, sitting up and looking around there was a golden retriever wreaking havoc on some poor families’ picnic. It was fine if you had a pet, but brining out in a public place meant that you should have some sort of control over it. What if someone got hurt? Well that’s what Ruby thought anyway. Lying back down on the grass a few minutes passed and then the thudding started on the ground, Rubes rolled over onto her stomach to see the golden retrieved hurtling her way. BAM! Rubes was on the floor in a daze and the dog was on top of her.
“Oh my god” She said trying to get the dog off her. It was like someone had dumped a rock on her, standing at 5’4 means her body wasn’t made to be laid on top on by a massive dog. And it was then she was him, her former best friend the guy that she could easily say she was in love with now. Lukas.
"Gerrad, down boy. You're going to get me into trouble I swear...It'll be the kennels for you next time!"
Taking in a deep breath, Rubes took his hand and got onto her feet, much to the pleasure of the dog who thought it was some kind of game. She couldn’t quite believe her luck, the one person she was thinking about apart from her dad was standing there in front of her and he looked even more perfect than usual.
"Fancy seeing you here eh..?"
Rubes took in a deep breath silently before remembering she actually had to reply to his question or risk looking even more of a dork.
“Well, it’s definitely a surprise Luk. How are you? What have you been up to?”
Dusting down her trousers and top, Rubes quickly ran her fingers through her hair, why did it have to be the one time she wasn’t wearing make up that she had to look a complete mess? Great.

Going where the wind blows YOU ARE YOUNG, YOU ARE WILD, YOU ARE FREE- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - “Well, it’s definitely a surprise Luk. How are you? What have you been up to?” Yeah, it was a surprise. Lukas tried to tame the feeling of butterflies in his stomach as he looked at Ruby. She still looked like the same amazing ruby, with that perfect face that seemed to be illuminated, but just by the sun, but by the own fact she was purely beautiful. Her hair had gotten a little longer since he'd last spoken to her, but really, she looked the same. Still Ruby. Still wonderful. He laughed a little nervously, reaching into his back pocket where he had been keeping Gerrads lead for safe keeping. Grabbing the pup by the collar he frowned, pointing his finger at the dogs nose and giving him his best serious look. "Bad Dog!" He frowned again, but when gerrad leaped up to his legs and nudged Lukas. He couldnt help but smile at that as the pup, tamed by his scolding, sat placidly by Lukas's legs, wagging his tail too and fro as if he were about to take off. Lukas laughed, then turned his attention back to Ruby. "Me? I'm fine, I'm just with with Anna and Mother and...Mark." He said the last two with so much disdain that it was probably thicker than the potato salad Gerrard had just eaten. Still, Ruby wouldn't be offended. She knew all about the problems Lukas had with his mother and her fiance. He'd spoken to her about in complete openess, which for Lukas had been a strange thing. Normally one to keep it bottled up, he'd freely indulged Ruby in his life, letting her know the most personal things in it. Part of the reason he had been so open was because he was comfortable with Ruby. She made him feel at ease, even now when they hadnt spoken in a while did he still feel one hundred percent at ease with her. There was no anxiety about sharing his problems with her, and had he not been in control, he would have asked her right there and then to sit down so he could spill his guts about everything. About how much he hated his family, how much he wanted to run away and never come back....and about how much he missed her. But he didn't, instead he just smiled. "I really only wanted to see Anna but, mother insisted on coming too and well, then mark had to come aswell so, she turned it into some twisted family fun day?" He shook his head and sighed a little, laughing gently as he pushed a hand through his hair. "Other than that, I cant say I've been up to much. Just dealt a few paintings last week and, settled the deal on a sculpture someone wants me to make. nothing really out there. you know me..." He pulled a slightly stiff pose, and smirked, adding for affect. "...Mr conservative." Really he wasn't anything of the sort. While he did enjoy the good night in, nothing more pleased him than going out and having a good time. But lately he hadn't gone out much. Something meant he lacked the get up and go to do such things. Perhaps it was because his main partner was missing. Well, not so much anymore. He looked at Ruby again, slightly put off track by the way he still felt the strong feelings he had for her. He'd thought, that with the seperation they would have died down. He thought that by spending time away from her he would have learned to stop loving her, but his feelings now, upon seeing her just felt stronger than ever before. He hadn't counted on 'abscence makes the heart grow fonder' if anything he'd been betting on the oppisite. But that wasn't so, and his stomach felt as if he'd become overtaken and melted into butterflies. He cleared his throat a little, pulling the leash from his pocket as he did so and focused his gaze on her, scanning her face intently with his large brown eyes that were somewhat similar to the puppies. Maybe that was why he'd bought him for anna? so she could have something that reminded her of her brother when he wasnt around? maybe because of the eyes? Either way, he didn't know. And nor did he care right now. Ruby was the only thing he was interested in. "What about you? You look great by the way...minus the er, grass poking out of your hair." He laughed lightly, stepping forward and extending his hand towards her hair. For a moment, it looked as if he were going to touch her face, cup it almost. And for a moment he wanted to. Like always there was this urge inside him that wanted him to just reach out and kiss her. It wanted him to just tell the truth and own up to the fact that he loved her like no other. But then he remembered the hurt that loving her brought. Lukas was aware that all she wanted from him was strictly a platonic relationship, and as hard as that was to accept, Lukas was resigned to the fact that to Ruby was out of his reach. So he didn't touch or cup her face, nor did he move forward and kiss her like his body begged him to do. Instead, he reached to her hair, and picked out the long blade of grass that had gotten stuck there when Gerrad had pounced on her. He held it up in font of her for a moment, as if to prove that he was really picking grass from her hair and smiled. "Got it." There was a moments silence, and in that moment, Lukas just felt awkward. He didn't know what to say. Strike that, he knew what to say but not how to say it. He wanted to sit her down and apologise for everything. He wanted to say sorry for being such a bastard and not being there for her. He wanted to tell her everything that he felt from her over the passed few years and apologise for ever seeting foot in her life, since he just seemed to ruin it most of the time. But he couldnt just come out with it, not after he hadnt spoken to her for months. Smiling politely he bent down, clasping the leish on the collar of his dog, suddenly intent on leaving. The silence was too awkward. He stood for a moment, not noticing that Gerrard was starting to fidget by his side. "Are you here alone?" He mentally slapped himself for making more awkward conversation. What was wrong with him? It was at that moment, that a saviour arrived in the form of a cat, which gangly and skinny as it was being obviously a stray, made it's way to where they stood. Gerrard acted immeadiatly, barking at it and starting to chase it. Lukas kept a firm hold on the leish, while gerrard started winding himself round the pair of their legs, bringing them closer together. Lukas wobbled, getting pushed into Ruby with a thump. Letting go of the leish he cursed, holding her steady and groaning a little. Gerrard ran, chasing the gangly alley cat, unaware of all the chaos he was causing. Lukas however, now closer and pushed against Ruby's tiny frame, couldn't focus. He looked down at her, clearing his throat and looking at her with intent adoration. "Sorry..." he mummbled, summoning a small charming smile. "The dogs a menace he really is..." He'd never really been this close to her, not without hugging her in a friendly way of course. He gulped slightly, more than aware of their closeness. He could barely breathe.
Rubes couldn’t quite believe her luck, she was stood in front of the person she was in love with and had been for the last two years. The butterflies were starting to increase in her stomach. Lukas was still as perfect as he had ever been, there was something about his height that made Rubes feel so safe around him. Even dressed in a shirt and jeans he could give a professional model a run for their money. Smiling a little, Rubes took a breath in, remembering she needed to breathe in order to survive. Something she always seemed to forget around Luk. He literally left her breathless when he was around; no one else really had that effect. Rubes listened intently as Lukas started talking. "Me? I'm fine, I'm just with Anna and Mother and...Mark." Oh dear, that was never a good thing, she knew how much Luk disliked his mother and her fiancée. Rubes had only met them a couple of times and they seemed a bit rude and arrogant which was strange as that’s the complete opposite set of personality traits to what Lukas has. He was always so sweet, kind, considerate and empathetic, all the traits of the perfect friend.
Rubes always felt comfortable enough around Lukas to tell him everything, every time some douche bag broke her heart, he was the first one she would call to unburden her soul too and the best part was he didn’t mind, it wasn’t often you found a friend who was really a friend, well, at least Rubes didn’t. Lukas was the only person she really truly trusted apart from her father of course and he wasn’t around to talk to. In fact, without Luk in her life there wasn’t anyone around for her to talk to. "I really only wanted to see Anna but, mother insisted on coming too and well, then mark had to come as well so, she turned it into some twisted family fun day?" Anna was Luk’s younger sister, she was really adorable. Rubes had met her a few times and even looked upon her as a little sister of her own, she would spend hours braiding her hair and painting pictures with her not only because it made Anna happy, it gave Rubes a chance to re-live some of her favourite activities as a child. Anna had an amazing innocence about her that made Rubes heart melt.
"Other than that, I cant say I've been up to much. Just dealt a few paintings last week and, settled the deal on a sculpture someone wants me to make. Nothing really out there. you know me..." Rubes smiled when Luk said he was still in the art business, it seemed to be a big passion of his. “I’m glad to see your still in the art business Luk, that’s really great” she said, a small smile overcoming her lips. It reminded her of times she would go and visit Luk in his studio, see, he wasn’t only an art dealer he was a fantastically talented artist. The butterflies in Rubes stomach were starting to flutter again, all she wanted to do was wrap her arms around his waist and nestle her head in his chest. His arms felt like home to her or at least they used to. Was it so wrong to just lean up and kiss him? Rubes body was urging her to give in but one thing she couldn’t deal with was rejection. For all she knew he had a girlfriend or was at least sleeping with someone.
Rubes looked as Lukas locked his glare on her. Her heart started to race a little quicker, physically right now all she wanted to do was drag him onto the floor and talk about what the hell has happened in the last two years, but being the wimp she was she stands motionless like she has for the last 5 minutes. "What about you? You look great by the way...minus the er, grass poking out of your hair." It was then that Rubes could feel her cheeks turning crimson, if he thought she was attractive looking like this, he must be slightly insane? “You look great too, by the way.” She said trying not to let her voice crack as the words left her mouth, watching Lukas step forward she had to restrain herself from embracing him, ignoring her body she smiled as he pulled the blade of grass that was stuck in her hair from the unexpected dog attack. “Thanks” she mumbled, a smile appearing across her face. Her heart rate stayed elevated as Lukas stepped away and back to where he was standing, she didn’t understand why she felt like this, Rubes hadn’t seen Luk in almost two years, in fact she hadn’t even really thought about him and now she see’s him and all kinds of emotion comes flooding back. After a few minutes of silence, Luk spoke again "Are you here alone?" the last word made Rubes feel particularly depressed. “You know me, I like some alone time.” Rubes said, knowing full well she had just lied, she didn’t want to be alone anymore, she was sick of being alone. After feeling slightly embarrassed for admitting she was a loner, in a park on a Sunday rubes let out a small sigh of relief as a cat walked towards them both, probably attracted to the dog. Then it happened, the dog started chasing the cat, winding the lead around Rubes and Lukas’s legs, forcing them uncomfortable close, Rubes was sure Lukas would be able to hear her heartbeat. Fuck fuck fuck she thought to herself, how could this be happening. . "The dogs a menace he really is..." Rubes cleared her throat “he’s definitely a lively one” she said trying to smile at the situation and maker sure her cheeks were not burning a bright red, Rubes wasn’t the best person with balance on a good day so being bound by a lead around the legs with someone she is in love with didn’t help her concentration. BAM! Rubes was on the floor, Luk on top of her, with a lead wrapped around her legs and the only words she could think to spit out were “Oh my god…” It was then she started laughing, it was either that or crying.

Going where the wind blows YOU ARE YOUNG, YOU ARE WILD, YOU ARE FREE- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - “He’s definitely a lively one” Lukas nodded, still looking at Rubes. The last thing he really cared about was whether the dog was behaving or not. Really, he was pretty thankful he wasn't. He made a mental note to award the dog with a treat later for pulling the lead stunt. It was definatly a good one. Lukas noted the blush on her cheeks, and how beautiful Ruby looked trying to cover it up. Chuckling gently under his breath, he tried not to let her notice. He himself wasn't blushing, but there was something else going on with him. Deep inside his stomach he was erupting in butterflies, and all over skin goosebumps were rising, making the hairs on the back of his neck and his arms stand up. God, why did she have to have such an affect on him? It was cruel. After all, she was the one who went swanning off, getting all those different boyfriends and leaving Lukas on his own. It was one of the reasons he had tried to distance himself from her, no matter how hard it had been. As an artist, he was senstive to the emotions he felt and those around him. Aspects of his life showed up in work, and ever since he'd distanced from Rubes, his work had definatly become more melancholy and instead of his belief in romance, which had been inflicted on his work, the colors of his paints had become darker, and he'd taken to doing more stone and sculpture work. It was by no means a reflection on how stoney his heart had become at times, but some couldnt help but think so. Lukas being one of them. Still, it had done wonders for his career, the whole sculpture and dark work was in right now, and he was earning a pretty penny off of being miserable. It had to be a first in the world, being miserable and getting paid for it. But seeing Ruby made him feel uplifted, and for a moment he questioned why he had ever stopped talking to her. But then, the emotions that felt so good about being with her, were easily counter acted by the feelings that were so bad. She was an inaccessible girl. Perfect and beautiful. Too much of both for someone like Lukas to get his hands on. He knew for a fact that if he got involved with her in a romantic way he would ruin her. Her, being so wonderful and so perfect, and him, being so messed up and so easily led astray. It was a sad state of affairs, and on that note he sighed, somewhat at the same time as Ruby did. He laughed a little at the coincidence, and just as he was about to say something, Ruby began to wobble. Wide eyed as they fell he wrapped an arm round her thin waist as if it could save them from the inevitable fall to the ground. But it didn't, and all it sufficed to do was to cushion the blow and pull her body closer to him. On the ground, Lukas groaned slightly, laying on top of Rubes like a dead weight. So, he wasn't a lard arse that was for sure, but compared to someone as fragile and as tiny as Ruby, he couldnt help but feel as if he were crushing her to death. He lifted up, balancing himself with one hand either side of her head, so half his body was elevated. He hoped to eleveate some of the weight he was pressing down on her at least. He didn't want to crush her now that they were together again. Together again? That felt weird to admit it. He'd spent so long avoiding her and avoiding the feelings that came with being with her, that to suddenly, and so forcefully be back in her life...? It was strange, and Lukas wasn't sure yet if it was a good thing or a bad thing. None the less, he smiled, looking down at Ruby as she blushed imensly. “Oh my god…” Her voice was small and muffled beneath him, and when she laughed such a beautiful melodic laugh, he couldn't help but join in. Shaking his head a little in disbelief he looked back down at their legs, cocking an eyebrow and laughing shortly. They looked a state, and people around them raised eyebrows at the sight that had unfolded in front of them. Lukas chuckled a little, bending down and whispering to Ruby as if he were trying to keep whatever it was a secret from the world. Or at least the people around them. "I think people are under the impression we've escaped from the looney bin. That, or we shouldn't audition with Gerard for crufts any time soon." He laughed lightly in the back of his throat, a deep manly laugh that was strangely melodic. He propped himself up again, and wriggling his legs a little he tried to free himself, realising he was pushing his body against hers. Almost unintentionally grinding on Ruby! He finally blushed, shaking his head and tensing. "Sorry Rubes. I'm not being a total perv I swear, I'm just trying to get my legs free so we can stand up---" He cut himself off before he could do any more damage with his verbal vomit. Shaking his head a little he tried to reach down the lead instead, this time causing on pain and discomfort to himself. It was no real angle to be trying to get free at. Somehow in the fall they had gotten tangled worse than before, and while Lukas was immensly greatful to be so close to the girl who thought the world of, this wasnt really how he imagined it. "Well, er...it's a good thing we know each other right?" He smirked a little, trying to lighten the situation in a way that he did best. By making a joke. "You wouldn't want to be doing this with a stranger now would you?" He laughed lightly, and then paused, letting his laughter die down slowly. He looked down at Ruby, searching her eyes which were so familiar as always. Nothing could measure up to how much he cared about her, and opening his mouth he went to say something. "Rub--" A high pitched squeal interupted him, and looking up, Lukas came face to face with his giggling four year old sister, and Gerard, both standing above their heads. Lukas cocked an eyebrow at the dog, who seemed too curious for Lukas's liking. Moving forward the dog panted, and Lukas furrowed his brow, looking down at Ruby for a moment, then back up, just in time to catch a dog tounge licking the side of his face. "Gerard!" Anna squealed, petting the dog and hugging it tight as if he had done something worth congratulating. Lukas, was far less than impressed, and turned a deeper shade of red than before. If this situation could get more embaressing, it would, and so Lukas saw the only way to escape it, was to escape the rope. "Anna, sweetheart. Could you get this lead off of us please? I'll buy you an ice cream cone?" His sister seemed to debate it, then giggling she moved herself to start untying the pair of them. In the meantime, Lukas looked at Ruby, a deep apologetic look on his face. "I'm so sorry about this Rubes. I'll buy you a cone aswell, how does that sound?" He laughed lightly, shaking his head a little again. This wasn't how he wanted their reuninion to be...not at all. But if it worked, it would do. How could this day get any more embarrassing? First, rubes bumped into Lukas, her perfect best friend that she was in love with but thinks he is too good for her, secondly, she had been knocked over by a rather large but very playful golden retriever, sprawling out over the grass until Luk helped her up with half of the parks grass In her hair and now, she was getting tied up with Luk by the same dog, who she was beginning to think may have been bribed to cause havoc to her peaceful and relaxing Sunday, although deep down she was glad it was all happening, it was like a ray of sunshine back in her life where for the last two years had been just full of rain. That was how she felt around Luk. He was so amazing and perfect, but how could she trust him after everything they had been through? She loved him, but he loved being with other people and rubes couldn’t deal with the emotional pain and she knew that he wasn’t going to change for someone like her.
Rubes had changed a lot since Luk and her had last talked, when they were friends she was an outgoing, bubbly, fun personality who went out most weekends, working for glamour meant that she got into all the most exclusive clubs in London with the most expensive drinks, Luk used to go with her and well, they used to get into trouble. Since they stopped talking Rubes pretty much stopped functioning it was the same routine day in day out, go to work, come home from work, eat, and sleep. And the cycle has been repeating itself for the last two years, weekends consisted of working more, going out once a month and sleeping. Rubes had been sleepwalking through her life for the last two years. The hardest part of that was admitting it.
Rubes almost started to hyperventilate as Luk hovered above her upper body, his face was only just above hers, all she wanted to do was wrap her arms around his neck and pull him into her face but she knew deep down that it was something she was too afraid to do, no matter how much her body was screaming at her to do it. She started to notice that people around the park were fixated on the pair, although if someone lying on the floor underneath someone with a lead wrapped around their legs wasn’t something to stare at, what was? This kind of thing didn’t usually happen in Notting Hill it was like a scene from some sort of comedy movie. "I think people are under the impression we've escaped from the looney bin. That, or we shouldn't audition with Gerard for crufts any time soon." Rubes smiled as she heard Luk talk, his voice sounded like the best friend she used to have, clearing her throat rubes caught his eyes “Y’know what, I think your right, I cant imagine people at crufts being too impressed by a dog who won’t behave, might make it quite entertaining though” rubes laughed a little as the last words escaped her mouth, she wouldn’t care if she was embarrassing herself on there BBC as long as Luk was there to do it with her.
Rubes started to turn a crimson colour as Luk tried to free himself from the lead, the grinding did make her kind of uncomfortable but more than anything she just wanted to laugh and shrug it off, if it was anyone else doing this she would have given them a slap around the face by now. "Sorry Rubes. I'm not being a total perv I swear, I'm just trying to get my legs free so we can stand up---" Rubes laughed as Luk sounded truly embarrassed about the situation. “Don’t worry about it Luk, I don’t think we could get stared at anymore by anyone else, I think the entire park has their undivided attention of us.” She said making a joke out of the situation and laughing a little, not a nervous or pretend laugh a real one, one she hadn’t actually used in a while.
As Luk started to look down at her, she could feel her heart rate elevating again, her breathing always seemed to become uneven whenever he gazed at her. His eyes were almost a gate to his soul, she could stare at them all day and be perfectly content. "Rub--" Luk said, as Rubes tried to concentrate on breathing she heard a squeal to the side of her head and there she was, the cutest little girl in the entire world – it was Anna, Luk’s younger sister and the dog who seemed genuinely happy with himself for causing what to him was a giant game! Anna started to untie the lead that was wrapped tightly around both sets of legs, although she was glad this ordeal was coming to an end due to the high public embarrassment factor at the same time she didn’t want it to end, this closeness that she shared with Luk, how did she know he wanted to be friends with her again? "I'm so sorry about this Rubes. I'll buy you a cone aswell, how does that sound?" Rubes smiled as soon as the words left his mouth, it might give her some time to actually talk to him without the entire of Notting hill staring at her.
Anna finally freed the pair and Rubes got up, running her fingers through her hair, making sure that there wasn’t any grass in it like last time, not that she could look any worst, looking over at Luk she put a serious face on. “I’ll have an ice cream cone with you on one condition.” Rubes said keeping her face straight “it’s a double scoop Mr.” she finished, winking towards Luk and looking towards Anna and the dog. “Anna!” rubes said in a high pitched tone walking over to the little girl and picking her up, giving her a kiss on the cheek, she had missed Anna, her youthful innocence never failed to put a smile on rubes face, she held onto her and looked over towards Luk smiling, the first real smile she had shown in two years.
